SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Ackley earned a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders from the University of Colorado in 1984, an M.Ed. degree in Deaf Education from Western Maryland College in 1972, and a psychology degree from Cornell College in 1968. He attended Gallaudet as a graduate student from 1969-70. He started his professional career working with deaf students at the Maryland School for the Deaf in 1971. He spent most of his career in audiology in Colorado working as an audiologist at Kaiser Permanente and professor at Colorado State University, University of Northern Colorado and Metro State College. He was Chairman for the Department of Communication Disorders at the University of Northern Colorado from 1992-1997. Dr. Ackley has been a Professor of Audiology at Gallaudet since 2000. Dr. Ackley took leave for a period of time to conduct research at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center on balance-related disorders.  Now, he is currently the chair of the Department of the Hearing, Speech, and Language Science here at Gallaudet University. His research expertise focuses on auditory and vestibular evoked potentials.
